PEMRA Issues Show Cause Notice to Dr. Aamir Liaquat and Geo Entertainment

ISLAMABAD: PEMRA Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has issued a show cause notice to a known and popular channel Geo Entertainment and Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain. The notice was issued to channel for airing inappropriate content that included the suicide scenes and PEMRA has also ordered the Geo Entertainment channel to explain its position on 21 June before the authority.

According to the notification of PEMRA, the anchor of Geo TV Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain in his programme that on aired on June 13 showed scenes of a girl that is committing suicide. The PEMRA regulatory body called for an explanation from the channel Geo TV and they also questioned that why it should not ban the program of Amir Liaqat on Geo Inaam Ghar.

In the PEMRA notification it is clearly said that dramatizing the act of suicide and showing suicide scenes has been completely banned by the PEMRA authority to all electronic media.

The media organization after go against the PEMRA rule could face a fine that is about Rs one million.

The notification  of PEMRA read during the said program of Geo Tv the guest were asked to do such unsuitable acts and were provoked to express the real anger in Punjabi language and upon which a guest used severe abusive language which also got aired in that show.
