Corona Virus disease (COVID-19) is a virus discovered in 2019. It is a virus that cause illness ranging from common cold to severe diseases.
Common signs include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breath difficulties. In severe cases it cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.
In Pakistan Corona virus cases reach 137,with 104 patients reported in Sindh. Majority cases being reported from pilgrims who had recently returned to the country from Iran. According to Sindh Health department 76 people from Taftan have tested positive, 27 cases in Karachi and 1 in Hyderabad. 15 new cases have reported by Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. All were pilgrims who had returned to Pakistan. 10 cases reported by Balochistan, 4 by Islamabad, 3 by Gilgit Baltistan and 1 by Punjab.
The World Health Organization (WHO) country representative in Pakistan had come up with one of the best response programmes against COVID-19 and urge people to follow the preventive measures to avoid contracting the virus.
Pakistan has seven diagnostic labs which are conducting 15,000 tests. People needs to take precautionary measures to avoid viral disease by avoiding public gatherings, maintain hand hygiene by washing hands with soap and water. Covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.
Pakistani Authorities timely responded to the threat and took measures in keeping virus away for a longer time when other countries were having cases. It is very important that people remain indoors for some days if they have flu like symptoms. It would prevent other people from contracting the disease even if it is not COVID-19.
According to study 67% of patients who tested positive had cough with temperature and difficulty in breathing.
Pakistan has timely come up with one of the best response against COVID-19 and it is being implemented very effectively. Authorities are doing job. Government had arranged 2000 isolation beds to keep patients of COVID-19 while screening arrangements had made at points of entry which are quite helpful to keep the virus away from the country.
