Coronavirus: Pakistan Imposes Nationwide Lockdown Soon

Coronavirus which originated in the central China city of Wuhan in the end of December 2019, has now spread to all continents excluding Antarctica. The COVID-19 respiratory illness has far killed thousands of people and sickened tens of thousands of others across the globe.

Pakistan despite its closeness with China remained u harm by the virus until February 26 when a young man from Karachi tested positive which had returned from Iran.

Nationwide COVID-19 patients has reached to 470. 252 in Sindh, 81 in Balochistan, 96 in Punjab, 23 in Kyber pakhtunkhwa, 21 in Gilgit-Balochistan, 5 in Islamabad and 1 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said people should self-quarantine for atleast another 45 days to tackle the virus. He even appealed to media, opinion makers to not create panic.

Prime Minister Imran khan has ruled out a complete lockdown in the country which he believes would slow down the economy and increase unemployment.

Imran khan said Pakistan can’t afford to shutter cities to prevent spread, as West is undertaking to slow the spread of Coronavirus. The United States and many other nations have recommended the closure of restaurants and other businesses as a way of stopping people from passing virus on.

In Pakistan, as in Karachi millions of people living in close proximity, such a step was considered early on but it would devastate the country’s fragile economy.

According to Prime Minister Pakistan situation is not the same as of US or Europe. 25% of our population is living in poverty. Pakistan has closed cricket stadiums. Schools, colleges and universities.

Sindh government began with revising the academic year by preponing summer vacations, banned public gatherings, close down restaurants, gyms, social clubs, wedding lawns and halls across the province. It also shut down Government offices for 2 weeks.

Punjab Government chose digital adopting a work from home policy l. It has also banned public gatherings, closed entry to tourists points including Murree and restricted shopping malls to 10.00pm.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government also disallowed private ceremonies. Barbers and Beauty palour also been ordered to close for 15 days.

In Balochistan, government implement preventive measures by avoiding crowds in markets.
